Danish Design at London Design Festival

A number of Danish activities will take place during this year's London Design Festival, 17-25 September. Danish Crafts has highlighted a few of them here.

Flowerpots with faces

Finally we have started the process of our new flowerpots. Drawing on different character and working on the form. Feels so good.

Dead things with a strong spirit

I have spent time in France this summer at my father’s place in Provence. It is such a magical place he has created there. He can, like on one else, see the beauty in old abandon things. He has a delicate sense for shapes and forms and likes to find things in nature and put them into new contexts. He is such a big source of inspiration to me.

Stilleben

Meyer-Lavigne are inspired by still life – modern and old. Soon we will go here.

Beautiful dead nature.

A wonderful walk

I walked around the cemetery Assistens kirkegården with a priest from New York. Such a beautiful moment. Intense talk about life and death and beautiful surroundings. I wish I could allow myself to do that more often.

Faces

I like this picture because he has several faces. A mask, a facade, a shield, a shelter – a holster for something else. His soul perhabs? Who is behind this face? What does his real face look like?

Before I die...

This piece is by public installation artist Candy Chang who explains the concept behind it..

"I turned the side of an abandoned house in my neighborhood into a giant chalkboard where residents can fill in the blank and remember what is important to them in life. It’s also about turning a neglected space into a constructive one where we can learn the hopes and aspirations of the people around us. It turns out this entire process has been a great lesson, experience, and project in itself ".

Saw a really beautiful exhibition Friday, with the Danish artist Emil Westman Hertz. So sensitive and simple and with an exquisite sense of materials. Go there and feel what life is all about.
